Trail magic. Twenty miles. Tan lines.

We did 20 miles today. But first. Yesterday post trail magic.

We went to max patch and it was absolutely stunning! (images below)

We watched the sunset and found out the milky way would be visible at 4 am. We woke up and unfortunately clouds came out and we only saw a few stars but nothing spectacular.

We decided to go back down to the trail magic prior. Bacon egg and cheese sandwiches and 4 sodas. Nom. Worth the .8 mile backtrack.

We had a >20 mile hike today to hot springs. We ran into a man doing trail magic cooking hot dogs and beans. They were delicious.

Finally, yesterday there was a point early in the day where I said, “Ow. That hurt” referencing my shin. Today it is much worse painwise. But still had to do the 20 miles.

We are staying at the laughing heart hostel in hot springs.

Tan lines. Check the picture below. These are from my trekking poles on my hands.

Great pictures. Sounds like you might be getting shin splints. No bueno. How many miles now, and I know you are north of Gatlinburg, How much longer in NC/TN and what is your next state. Loving the blog.

Next state is Virginia around mile 466. Then we’re in Virginia for 500+ miles. We’re currently at mile 274.

It’s not shin splints. I strained my tibealis anterior (from all the pressure points to pinpoint it, talking to a doc today) and the ligament it’s connected to.

    You did it!!

SMNP was when I realized barring injury that I’d make it the whole way.

    Huge accomplishment.

Stay warm over Roan, it is FRIGID.

Overmountain is a cool barn to stop at but it’s very cold!!

This is so awesome! I love how the Trail is such a central part of the surrounding communities. I love the pictures and stories of trail magic!
